What kind of drill bit would I need to drill through the step bumper on my pick-up truck?
I'm installing one of those 2" step bumper receivers the old fashioned way by bolting it on. This is necessary to have a small cargo platform behind the truck. I'm putting a gasoline generator on there to power an air conditioner that's pressed up against the back window. This will be a lot cheaper than having someone weld the bumper receiver onto my bumper. I have a few bit sets. Not sure which one would be best suited to drill through steel. Thanks for reading.
Use a bit that is made for steel, not wood. Use a slower speed and put a bit of cutting oil on while you are drilling. IF you don't have cutting oil, any oil will do, even WD-40. The bigger the drill bit, use slower rpm's. If the chips coming out of the hole are turning blue, you're using too high rpm's.
