Why do most people put condiments on both slices of bread for a sandwich but on only the top bun of a burger?

I do this too. Most people who I know put condiments (mayo, mustard, etc.) on both slices of bread when they make a sandwich, but they put the condiments on only the top bun of a burger, despite the fact that a burger usually has more bread and thicker meat than a sandwich. Why is this?
Wow, a lot of different kinds of answers. I guess it is each person's preference. :)

I put condiments on both sides for any kind of sandwich, even with pita bread. When I have a veggie burger, I put a very thin layer of ketchup on the bottom slice, add the burger, then put ketchup & relish or pickles on top of the burger and put the top slice on. If I have tomatoes, onions or lettuce on it, I put those under the burger on the bottom slice after the ketchup. I've found that it keeps them from sliding out so much when I'm eating it.
